Go to the following website. Whe you arrive their go click on the survey and complete the survey seperately. When the survey is completed on the bottom of the link it will say send to a friend (send to: mrharrell1914@gmail.com). Then read the background essay and answer the questions. 1. 1) Some of the arguments aganist "designer babies" is they will alter the babies or change them too much, and deliver traits that the parents did not request.
    2) Many people believe that altering their child is too risk because of the harm it could do if the wrong genes are altered, although, it has been proven that altering some genes in an unborn child could give them advantages, such as immunitiy to diseases.
    3) Another reason why some people do not approve of alterations is some trait may be inherited by the child that the parents did not want them to inherit, however, some of those traits could actually benefit the child in some way, or maybe most parents would not mind it, and actually prefer it that way.
    4) Myself personally, I would not genetically alter my child, nor would i recommend it because it takes away the natural order of things. Genetic enginerring on unborn babies is something that should not have even been discovered. Having babies is a natural part of life, and even though, in some cases, it is beneficial, humans should not the power to genetically constructed another human being.

  2. 1) Some arugments for and against "designer babies" are the attempt to change the genetic make-up of humans might not stop with genes that cause disease, but any "troublesome" genes may also be altered some day.

    2) There are many critics that will argue that the removal of certain traits will eliminate the variability of humans, however that is not necessarily true. The removal of certain traits coudl improve a persons life especially if it is the removal of disease causing genes. The traits removed would be decided by the parents so human variability wouls still exist. The variability of humans would only be eliminated if scientists took out the same genes, and traits, in every child, which is unlikely because no person's DNA, genes, or traits are the exact same. Due to this there would still be variation.

    3) Screenings have been conducted by doctors for parents who are concerned about the health of their unborn child in search of specific genes, including disease causing genes. When these genes are found it is possible to have them removed, however the deletion of genes could disrupt the sequence of the child's genetic code. This disruption could cause a mutation in the child that would not have occured if the genetic coding had not been altered.

    4) I do not believe that babies should be altered. Children are not toys. They are not like the bears at Build-A-Bear Workshop where you can pck and chose what to do with them. When humans change the genetics of a person they are playing God, which should not happen. Everyone is made in His image and there is nothing wrong with anyone even if they are different or have a disease. It is unethical that parents would want "perfect" children without flaws and would go so far as to alter their genetics.
