EPO and Aerobic Respiration

How does EPO aid an athlete in becoming an even better athlete in endurance sports. Connect the text between EPO and Aerobic Respiration. Secondly why did Lance according to the article stop taking EPO and begin to take HemiAssit. Finally how could taking this drug give Lance Armstrong a competitive advantage if he indeed took the drug, more importantly how did he benefit (include items such as money, publicity, and wins).

  1. EPO and Aerobic respiration both aid in athletes by enhancing their performance, in endurance sports. Lance Armstrong stop taking EPO because it caused health complications increasing his blood viscosity and caused strokes and blood loss. He took HemAssist because it lasted longer and it was less harmful. Lance had a competive advantage because he was stronger and had more endurance. He benefited socially by taking EPO which caused him to win the "Tour De France".

  2. EPO raises the hematocrit level of an athlete, which keeps the Athlete in Aerobic respiration thus keeping their endurance high. Lance Armstrong stopped taking EPO because it caused extreme blood loss which could have led to shock or trauma, on the other hand he started taking HemAssist because it lasted longer and it was less harmful. As stated by the article this made Lance Armstrong more competitive, more stronger and gave him more endurance. This made him win the TOUR DE FRANCE of the most popular sport events in the world.

  3. EPO is hormone that stimulates the bone marrow, producing extra red blood cells. The additional red blood cells would allow for an increase of oxygen count in the blood. Athletes have been known to take EPO to improve their endurance. The additional oxygen would allow aerobic respiration to at a much higher rate.

According to the article, famous cyclist Lance Armstrong used EPO to improve his performance. The article also states that Armstrong cut off ties with the man who supplied him with EPO and began using a new drug, called HemiAssist. This new drug allowed for the increase in oxygen count in the blood without the increase in blood thickness. This blood thickness that EPO caused was known to cause strokes.

Taking these drugs allowed Armstrong's blood to carry more oxygen. This would cause the body to perpetuate aerobic respiration longer, preventing lactic acid from building up in his muscles. Because of this, Armstrong was able to win highly publicized bicycle races, including the multiple Tour de France wins. These victories made him a celebrity and gave him undeserved fame and wealth.

EPO is a glycoprotein hormone that controls the red blood celll production. It gives the body extra red blood cells that icreases the oxygen intake. As a result this improve the athletes ability and allows them to exercise for longer rates than normal. In an aerobic respiration this hormone allows the body to have more oxygen intake then the normal human being.

In the Article, Lance Armstrong (a cyclist) used EPO to improve his athletic abilities. He stopped taking it because he found Baxter made drug called Diaspirin Cross-Linked Hemoglobin or HemAssist. HemAssist is a drug that increases the blood's oxygen-carrying capacity without the thickening caused by EPO.

By using these drugs his bodies Aerobic Respiration had been able to have a greater intake of oxygen. He has been able to perform longer and better than the regular cyclist. These drugs are the gateway to success, Allowing him to win multiple races such as the Tour De France. By winning these races he gained fame and money from multiple sponsorship. Now he is known as One of the best cylist the world has ever known.

EPO is a hormone that controls the production of red blood cells. The body recieves extra red blood cells, which means the oxygen level is increased. This drug/steroid allows the athelete to have a higher endurance. They are able to have a better performance in the particular activity that they are doing.

Armstrong recieved a numerous amount of money because of this. People looked at him as a true suvivor and fighter, so therefor when the armwrist first started to sell, many people went out to buy the product just to support him.

His name stayed in the highlights. People were wondering how he was able to be in the hospital and come out the hospital running in olympics. Many thought that he was on illegal drugs, and tried to sue him.

The drugs gave him alot of wind and endurance on the track. He was able to be really sick and still win. But the drugs were also hurting him, he should have took rests, but instead he continued to run.

  6. EPO is a hormone that produces more red blood cells. And oxygen increases.lance armstrong took EPO to increase his aerobic respiration.Which makes your endurance better. Then lance switched to another drug called hemiassist which increases the oxygen with out increasing blood thickness.

In athletes the EPO raises the hematocrit level, keeping the endurance high while the athlete is still in Aerobic Respiration. Lance stopped taking EPO because it caused extreme blood lose, so he started taking HemiAssist. HemiAssist lasted longer and wasn't as harmful. HemiAssist made him stronger, more competitive, and more endurance. Taking HemiAssist helped him win the Tour De France.

  9. EPO and HemiAssit are drugs that enduce blood flow in the body, making your heart pump faster, thereby, getting more oxygen in your body. EPO aids an athelete by doing what it's suppose to bdo as a drug; if an athelete has more oxygen in there body, they can push their bodies further because there still geting plenty of oxygen. In the case of Lance Armstrong, because he had cancer, he had to take HemiAssit, which pretty much does the same thing as EPO. People were beginning to say that because of this drug he was taking to stay healthy, he was getting an advantage, so he stopped taking it. Both EPO and HemiAssit are related to cell respiration beacuse of the fact that it sends more oxygen through your body, advancing your chances of outlasting other competitors. Some ways that Lance Armstrong benifited from this is he was getting deals and promotions from all these sponsers beacuse he became an inspiration to some people.

  10. epo increase oxygen in the blood. that how it enhance the performance in an athlete. lance stop taking it because it was causing his blood viscosity and caused strokes and blood loss according to the text. he was useing it to improve his endurance to win bike races. after he stopped he start using hemiassit. he became a celebrity off his wins in the cyclist race and thats how he got his name out there.
